The capital of Peru, began on January 18, 1535, the date of its foundation by Francisco Pizarro. The city was established in the Rimac river valley in an area populated by Ichma manor and taking the name "Ciudad de los". In the 17th century, the city flourished as the center of an extensive commercial network despite frequent earthquakes and the threat of piracy. This boom came to an end in the eighteen century.
